Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta, a renowned Pakistani child and maternal health specialist, has been awarded the prestigious “Order of Canada” for his exceptional contributions to global health. This honor is one of Canada’s highest civilian awards, recognizing individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to society.

Established in 1967, the Order of Canada has been presented to more than 7,600 people from diverse fields, with this year’s list including 88 distinguished personalities. Of these, 24 individuals, including Dr. Bhutta, have been appointed as Officers of the Order.

Dr. Bhutta’s pioneering research and leadership in the fields of maternal, newborn, and child health have positively impacted millions of lives, especially in underserved and marginalized communities across the globe. His work has influenced public health policies from the World Health Organization (WHO) to various international health programs.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Bhutta said, “I am deeply honored by this recognition. I am especially thankful to the generations of students and colleagues who have worked alongside me to address the challenges faced by women and children, particularly in Pakistan and other low-income countries.”

His contributions have been vital in shaping healthcare initiatives aimed at improving maternal and child health, making a lasting difference in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
