For the first time in Pakistan’s history, Rajender Meghwar, a Hindu, has been appointed to the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). Meghwar has taken up his role as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Faisalabad, where he has been assigned to the Gulberg Police.
A native of Badin, an underdeveloped area in Sindh, Meghwar joined the police force after passing the Civil Services Examination (CSS). Expressing his joy at achieving his dream, he shared that his position allows him to serve his community in ways that other roles might not.
Meghwar believes that working in the police gives him the opportunity to directly address people’s issues, something he feels would be difficult to achieve in other positions.
His appointment has been met with optimism from fellow police officials, who see it as a step toward greater inclusivity in the force. They believe his presence will help strengthen law and order while addressing the concerns of minority communities.
In a related development, Roopmati, a woman from a minority community in Rahim Yar Khan, has also passed the CSS exam. She hopes to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help promote Pakistan’s positive image on the global stage.
