British-Pakistani Journalist Saima Mohsin Honored with Kathy Gannon Legacy Award

British-Pakistani journalist Saima Mohsin has been awarded the prestigious Kathy Gannon Legacy Award by the Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ) in London. The accolade recognizes her outstanding commitment to journalism and her dedication to upholding integrity in the face of challenges.

The award pays tribute to female journalists who embody the legacy of Kathy Gannon, a veteran correspondent known for her fearless reporting. The CFWIJ praised Mohsin for her resilience, stating, “Mohsin exemplifies the values of the Kathy Gannon Legacy Awards, demonstrating the importance of tenacity and commitment in journalism.”

Mohsin gained widespread recognition for her perseverance following a serious injury sustained during an assignment in Jerusalem, which led to her being fired. Since then, she has become an advocate for justice, standing against the injustices she faced and campaigning for better workplace protections for journalists.

The coalition commended her for becoming a champion for her peers, adding, “Her fight for justice for journalists who are injured on the job, often at personal risk, deserves the highest recognition.”

Currently working with Sky News, Mohsin shares the honor with Leila Molana Allen, another accomplished journalist, making them the two recipients of the 2024 Kathy Gannon Legacy Awards.

“As Mohsin and Allen receive the 2024 Kathy Gannon Legacy Awards in London, they remind us of women journalists worldwide who continue to pursue truth and often contribute more to journalism than the stories they tell,” the CFWIJ noted.

The organization also took to Instagram to celebrate Mohsin’s achievement, emphasizing her courage and dedication to safeguarding her colleagues in a demanding industry.

“CFWIJ is proud to support and honor both winners,” the coalition concluded.
