Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The discussions focused on enhancing trade and investment ties between Pakistan, the UK, and Iran.

During the meeting with PM Starmer, Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s economic challenges, emphasizing structural reforms and tax expansion. He also discussed the impact of climate change and acknowledged the UK’s role as Pakistan’s third-largest investor, with a significant Pakistani diaspora strengthening bilateral relations. Sharif accepted an invitation from King Charles III to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in October.

In his discussion with Iranian President Pezeshkian, Sharif underscored the importance of fostering neighborly relations and enhancing trade and cultural cooperation between the two countries. Pakistan and Iran, sharing a 959-kilometer border, have taken steps to improve commercial ties, including the establishment of border markets.

These meetings reaffirmed mutual support and opened avenues for further collaboration.
