Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, awarded Congressman Alexander N. Green with the prestigious Sitara-i-Khidmat on September 9, 2024, in Washington, DC. The honor recognized Green’s significant contributions to strengthening Pakistan-US relations, promoting Pakistan’s positive image in Congress, and his role in combating Islamophobia.

The ceremony, held at the Pakistan Embassy, was attended by prominent figures including Congressman Randy Weber, Representative Henry Cuellar, former Congressman Nick Lampson, Texas State Representative Suleman Lalani, diplomats, and members of the Pakistani-American community.

Ambassador Sheikh praised Green as an “extraordinary individual” whose efforts have deepened diplomatic and economic ties between Pakistan and the US. He highlighted Green’s advocacy during the 2022 Pakistan floods, where the Congressman not only showed solidarity but also urged wealthier nations to provide timely assistance, emphasizing Pakistan’s minimal contribution to global emissions.

In his acceptance speech, Green expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government and people, referring to the award as a “continuation of the friendship” between the two nations. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening people-to-people relations, noting, “The people of Pakistan are part of my family, and I will continue to build lasting connections.”

Ambassador Sheikh also acknowledged Green’s support for initiatives such as the Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act of 2009 and his contributions to combating terrorism in the region. He emphasized the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and the US, built on shared values and mutual respect, and credited Green for nurturing this important bond.

The ceremony underscored the importance of diplomacy and collaboration in addressing global challenges, from terrorism to climate change, and the crucial role individuals like Congressman Green play in fostering strong international relationships.
