ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi hosted a special reception on Thursday aboard the Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Shamsheer at the Cruise Terminal, Mina Zayed Port, to commemorate Pakistan’s Defense Day. The event was attended by prominent UAE government officials, navy personnel, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Defense Day is celebrated annually to honor the soldiers who fought in the 1965 war between Pakistan and India.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, along with Commodore Shahid Wasif, the Mission Commander of the Pakistan Navy, welcomed General Salem Saeed Al Jabri, UAE’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Military and Security Affairs, and Brigadier Abdullah Al Mohairbi, Deputy Commander of the UAE Navy, as special guests.

The event also coincided with the commencement of the bilateral naval exercise Nasl Al Bahr between Pakistan and the UAE, which began earlier this week at Port Zayed.

In his address, Commodore Wasif emphasized the importance of the exercise, which aims to strengthen cooperation, enhance interoperability, and build the capacities of both navies.

Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the longstanding military partnership between Pakistan and the UAE, stating, “The collaboration between our militaries extends beyond the unification of the Emirates. This relationship has evolved into a stronger partnership, clearly demonstrated by the UAE Navy hosting Pakistan’s PN flotilla for the fifth edition of Nasl Al Bahr.”

The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, after China and the United States, and home to over a million Pakistani expatriates. It is also the second-largest source of remittances to Pakistan, following Saudi Arabia.
