The Pakistan Navy’s latest offshore patrol vessel, PNS Hunain, arrived at Karachi port this week, marking a significant milestone for the naval fleet. This vessel is the third in a series of four patrol ships built at the Damen naval shipyard in Romania, outfitted with advanced weapons and sensor technology, according to a statement by the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) of the Pakistan Navy.
PNS Hunain embarked on its maiden voyage from Romania on August 10, reaching Karachi, Pakistan’s southern port city, on Friday. A formal reception was held at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard, with Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, as the chief guest.
Vice Admiral Abbasi underscored the importance of the new addition, stating, “The inclusion of PNS Hunain in the Pakistan Navy fleet will significantly boost our ability to secure Pakistan’s maritime borders.” He added that this multipurpose, state-of-the-art vessel will provide vital support to ongoing maritime security patrols across the Indian Ocean.
PNS Hunain is a medium-sized, highly versatile offshore patrol ship, equipped with advanced electronic warfare systems, anti-ship and anti-aircraft weapons, sophisticated sensors, and self-defense systems. It was constructed and commissioned in Romania in July 2024.
