The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) opened admission to students who have passed their FSc with pre-medical subjects to the BS Engineering programs after realizing that the numbers for engineering programs were decreasing.
PEC, the regulatory body of engineering, has allowed students in pre-medical to be admitted in the BS engineering after bringing them in eight weeks made up for the deficient courses like mathematics, etc.
Until a few years ago, our engineering universities were producing around 30,000 engineers annually, but now it is declining as there is a reduction of around 10,000 admissions in one year in the engineering field; some universities have also closed their departments of engineering for lack of students, therefore, to encourage pre-medical students, the admission facility has been allowed, said Dr. Nasir Mahmood Khan, the PEC Registrar. He said that in this regard he had consulted with the vice-chancellors and other experts.
Mr. Khan said that the universities had been directed to admit students with a pre-medical background from the latest admission session of the fall. He highlighted that engineering is necessary for the country’s advancement process and that the PEC with the help of other bodies of government is engaging in many activities including paid training and pro. Stem at the school level.
Similarly in a letter now available with The Education Times PEC said in a letter dated, July 11 to HEC that its governing body in its 49th meeting held on June 28 has decided to bring amendments to the PEC Regulations for Engineering Education in Pakistan by giving the HSSC intermediate pre-medical device to all the engineering programs.
PEC also instructed institutions that new admission policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) should be implemented for such learners.
According to the guidelines provided by the PEC, it was announced that entry test mechanisms needed to be changed to accommodate the new qualifications and that their weights should also be mentioned to be relevant for admission’s purpose. Universities were instructed to provide an eight-week condensed program for deficient courses like mathematics that a student must complete before getting into an engineering program. This will be referred to as the probationary level for the foundation courses resulting in admission by an entrance test.
