Pakistan, Russia mull road connectivity to enhance trade

Minister for Communications, Board of Investment, and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan met with Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev to discuss mutual interests and bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

During the meeting, they extensively deliberated on enhancing road connectivity between Russia and Pakistan to significantly boost trade and cargo activities between the two countries. Minister Khan expressed Pakistan’s keen interest in establishing a route through Central Asian countries, connecting back to Karachi Port, aimed at promoting bilateral trade and facilitating commerce for neighboring nations.

Highlighting the importance of trade relations with Russia, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan underscored its strategic significance within the region. He emphasized Pakistan’s readiness to attract investments from Central Asian and South Asian countries, reflecting on his recent visit to Central Asia.

Ambassador Albert P. Khorev reiterated Russia’s commitment to strengthening trade and economic ties with Pakistan, affirming their willingness to provide financial and technical support for various projects. He acknowledged the pivotal role of the China-Pakistan-Central Asia road network and expressed Russia’s interest in establishing connectivity through Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan as a vital trade corridor.

The Ambassador emphasized Pakistan’s pivotal position in regional trade dynamics and expressed Russia’s desire to collaborate as a strategic partner. Discussions also covered the potential for bilateral flight operations between Islamabad, Karachi, and Moscow.

Federal Secretary of Communications Ali Sher Mehsud provided insights into government policies and the Department of Communications’ efforts regarding road networks linking China, Afghanistan, Central Asia, and other regions.
