Champions Trophy 2025: Gaddafi Stadium set for Dubai-style makeover

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has ambitious plans to revamp Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, alongside major cricket venues in Karachi and Rawalpindi. The aim is to ensure readiness for hosting the Champions Trophy early next year.

A significant aspect of the Gaddafi Stadium renovation is to enhance the viewing experience for spectators. Taking inspiration from Dubai Cricket Stadium, the goal is to offer unobstructed views of the match from all seats.

Proposals include relocating hospitality boxes closer to the ground to improve the overall experience, expanding seating capacity in the Imran Khan and Fazal Mahmood enclosures, and installing a large screen to elevate the match-day atmosphere.

The upcoming event will mark the return of the ICC Champions Trophy after an eight-year hiatus, with the last edition held in 2017, where Pakistan clinched victory by defeating India in the final.

Confirmed participating teams for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy include Pakistan (hosts), India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, and Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Rajeev Shukla, the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), addressed inquiries about the Indian team’s tour of Pakistan for the Champions Trophy next year.

Speaking to ANI, Shukla stated that the BCCI will adhere to the directives of the Indian government regarding the Indian team’s visit to Pakistan.

“We will proceed with the Champion Trophy arrangements based on the instructions provided by the Government of India. We only send our team upon receiving permission from the Government of India. Therefore, our actions will align with the decision of the Indian government,” Shukla explained.
