Ahsan Iqbal launches ‘Clean and Safe Drinking Water’ plant

In Narowal, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nestlé initiated a clean water plant. With extremely high temperatures and heatwaves going on, this project proves vital to the public. In his address upon launch, the minister stated, “I thank Nestle Pakistan for providing this facility on behalf of the people of Narowal.” He added that Pakistan is already facing shortage of clean water. This shortage is causing spread of certain diseases like hepatitis etc. that can be fatal. Other than this effort towards mitigating lack of clean water, Ahsan Iqbal also shed light on the issue of malnutrition.

He recalled that “The Prime Minister launched the National Nutrition Program, investing 8 billion rupees to combat malnutrition.” Furthering on this, he added, “A healthy nation can only be build by focusing on clean drinking water and balanced nutrition.” This filtration plant will provide 24,000 litres of clean water to 10,000 people daily. The quality of this water adds to the benefit alongside this large quantity of people that will be provided for.

During his address to participants, Jason Avancena, CEO of Nestlé Pakistan Limited, elaborated on various community development projects being implemented. These projects are operating all across Pakistan under the company’s Community Engagement Program. The aim of these endeavours is to improve access to clean water everywhere and increase nutritional awareness. Later, Federal Minister Pref. Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated the “Clinic on Wheels” project. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Narowal Syed Hassan Raza. CEO Nestlé Pakistan Limited Jason Avancena also attended the event, CEO Health Narowal Dr. Naveed Haider was present as well. These aspirations of Nestlé align with the vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab. They supplement the broader aims of national development, particularly aiding the health sector.
