Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the security of Chinese workers in Pakistan following an attack on Chinese nationals in KP’s Shangla district. Assuring full support, he emphasized that no compromise would be made on their safety.

In a meeting with a delegation from the Shanghai Electric Group, led by Chairman Wu Lei, the Prime Minister underscored the government’s determination to facilitate Chinese investors and ensure the expansion of ongoing projects. He emphasized providing all necessary assistance to further the interests of Chinese investors in Pakistan.

Attended by key officials including Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Energy Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, and Petroleum Minister Dr. Musaddik Malik, the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in energy projects. PM Shehbaz urged Chinese firms to transition power plants from imported to local coal and increase investment in coal mining.

During the briefing on projects by the Shanghai Electric Group, the Prime Minister highlighted the robust and enduring ties between Pakistan and China, expressing Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation. The Group’s significant contributions to projects like Thar Coal mine development and a 1320MW coal power project were acknowledged.

Despite challenges, including a recent tragic incident where a suicide bomber targeted a convoy of foreign nationals resulting in casualties, Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals and fostering bilateral ties with China. The government’s resolve to facilitate investment and enhance collaboration in crucial sectors such as energy underscores its dedication to mutual prosperity and friendship with China.
