Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa emphasized on Wednesday that the Supreme Court will adamantly oppose any meddling in judicial matters, affirming the seriousness with which it views the letter from Islamabad High Court judges.

Furthermore, the chief justice highlighted that the letter specifically references the Supreme Judicial Council, implying that it pertains to matters beyond the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

CJP Isa made these remarks during the hearing of the Supreme Court’s suo motu notice regarding the letter penned by Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges, which raises concerns about purported interference in judicial affairs by intelligence agencies.

The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, is conducting live proceedings regarding a letter from Islamabad High Court judges, raising concerns about interference in judicial affairs.

The Chief Justice stressed zero tolerance for any threats to judicial independence and addressed discussions regarding the appointment of an inquiry commission. The hearing follows the SC’s suo motu notice prompted by a petition signed by around 300 lawyers, urging CJP Isa to intervene under Article 184(3) of the Constitution.

The letter from IHC judges had highlighted alleged interference by intelligence agencies, prompting swift action and consultations by the Chief Justice and government officials, culminating in the proposed appointment of an inquiry commission.
