The Lahore High Court, on Monday, dismissed a petition challenging the printing of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s picture on a Kisan Card in Punjab.

Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court dismissed the plea filed by citizen Mashkoor Hussain.

The lawyer representing the Punjab government informed the court that the decision to print Nawaz Sharif’s picture on the Kisan card had not been finalized yet.

Last week, the Lahore High Court received a challenge against the decision to emboss former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s picture on the Kisan Card.

In his petition, Mashkoor Hussain argued that while Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had approved the inclusion of Nawaz Sharif’s picture on the Kisan Card, the use of public funds for personal publicity was inappropriate.

The plea highlighted that using national treasury for personal promotion contradicted the Supreme Court’s verdict. Hussain urged the court to suspend the decision until a ruling was made on the plea.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had sanctioned the ‘Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card Project’ to enhance the agriculture sector and improve the socio-economic status of farmers in Punjab.

Chairing a meeting related to agricultural reforms, the Chief Minister announced that 500,000 small farmers would receive loans under the Kisan card on favorable terms, totaling Rs. 150 billion within a year.

Additionally, farmers would be provided Rs. 30,000 per acre for the purchase of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Various subsidies would also be offered to farmers under the Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card initiative, she added.
