Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to become the first foreign head of state to visit Pakistan since Shehbaz Sharif assumed office as prime minister.

Erdogan is expected to visit the country after the month of Ramadan, following a positive conversation with PM Shehbaz immediately after his election victory.

Speaking at a ‘Nepali Army Day’ reception, Turkish Ambassador Dr. Mehmet Pacaci mentioned that the specific date for Erdogan’s visit is yet to be finalized, but the Turkish President is eager to visit Islamabad soon.

Dr. Pacaci highlighted the high regard that Turkish leaders hold for Pakistan and its government. However, due to local body elections scheduled in Turkey on March 31st, Erdogan’s visit to Pakistan will likely take place after Ramadan.

In the meantime, diplomatic sources revealed that PM Shehbaz is planning his first foreign trip to Saudi Arabia later this month, during Ramadan.

During a warm exchange, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman welcomed Shehbaz and expressed a desire for his early visit to the kingdom.

The sources further mentioned that several important capitals have diplomatically conveyed their interest for Shehbaz to visit their countries at the earliest opportunity.

Regarding Pakistan’s National Day on March 23rd, falling during Ramadan, the sources indicated that the country has not yet decided on inviting any foreign heads of state or government. A final decision is expected next week.
