Murad Ali Shah, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate, has been elected as the 25th Chief Minister of Sindh on Monday.

The session, presided over by Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Awais Shah, witnessed the oath-taking of newly elected MPA Nadir Ali Magsi. Murad Ali Shah secured a two-thirds majority with 112 votes against Ali Khurshidi, the candidate from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, who received 36 votes in the midst of a boycott by the PTI and the JI. Nomination papers on behalf of Murad Ali Shah were submitted by Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Saleh Shah, and Naeem Kharal.

In a separate development, Maryam Nawaz, the nominee of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), made history by becoming the first female Chief Minister of Punjab. She secured the position with 220 votes, and the proceedings faced a boycott by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

The Pakistan People’s Party holds the majority in the Sindh Assembly with 112 members, solidifying its position in the province. The recent elections mark significant political developments in Sindh and Punjab, with Murad Ali Shah taking charge in Sindh and Maryam Nawaz becoming Punjab’s first female Chief Minister.
