Pakistan earns $ 1,151 million from the export of IT services in 5 months

Pakistan generated a total of US $1,151.956 million through diverse Information Technology (IT) services offered to various countries in the initial five months of the current fiscal year 2023-24. This marks a growth of 5.89 percent compared to the US $1,087.929 million earned in the corresponding months of the previous fiscal year 2022-23, as per the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Examining the period, the export of computer services witnessed an 8.17 percent increase, rising from US $864.429 million last year to US $935.016 million during July-November 2023. Within computer services, software consultancy services experienced a significant surge of 46.67 percent, escalating from US $1.710 million to US $2.508 million this year. Additionally, hardware consultancy services saw a moderate increase of 4.15 percent, growing from US $318.041 million to US $331.231 million. However, the export of repair and maintenance services saw a decrease of 40.74 percent, falling from US $1.485 million to US $0.880 million.

Furthermore, the export and imports of computer software services observed a growth of 4.05 percent, rising from $239.473 million to $249.179 million. Conversely, the export of information services declined by 22.91 percent, decreasing from US $1.790 million to US $1.380 million. Among information services, information-related services exports increased by 12.37 percent, from US $0.485 million to US $0.545 million. However, news agency services exports decreased by 36.02 percent, dropping from US $1.305 million to US $0.835 million.

The export of telecommunication services slightly decreased by 2.77 percent, declining from US $221.710 million to US $215.560 million. In the telecommunication services category, call centres services exports increased by 11.11 percent, rising from US $87.327 million to US $97.026 million. On the other hand, other telecommunication services witnessed a decrease of 11.798 percent, falling from US $134.383 million to US $118.534 million during this year, as per the PBS data.
