The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued a directive on Thursday, compelling the removal of all political banners across the city. The court specifically ordered the removal of billboards and hoardings, demanding a compliance report by January 31.
Justice Nadeem Akhtar, presiding over the case, emphasized the seriousness of the order by instructing authorities to take legal action against election candidates responsible for displaying unauthorized billboards or hoardings.
The court further emphasized that officials exhibiting hesitance should face consequences, with police officers supporting such actions also liable to face legal repercussions.
The high court bench extended its instructions to city officials, urging them to take decisive action against individuals displaying pictures in violation of regulations. Justice Nadeem Akhtar expressed concern over the potential impact on the city’s image, questioning whether it was a place for civilized people or resembling a jungle.
In an address to lawyers representing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Cantonment Boards, the court urged them to fulfill their responsibilities and prevent the city from descending into chaos.
The directive underscores the court’s commitment to maintaining order and upholding civic standards in the region. The compliance report due at the end of January will shed light on the extent of adherence to these instructions.
