Following his meetings with senior United States officials in Washington, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss Kashmir and Gaza issues, as per the military’s media wing statement on Saturday.

During his official visit to the US, General Asim engaged with Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and other high-ranking defense officials in Washington. The meeting with Antonio Guterres occurred at the UN headquarters in New York, where General Asim emphasized the ongoing challenges in Kashmir and Gaza.

The COAS stressed that achieving peace in South Asia is contingent on a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Kashmir Dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He condemned India’s unilateral and illegal attempts to alter the status of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing their violation of UNSC resolutions.

In addressing the Palestine issue, General Asim urged the UN chief to rally the international community for an immediate halt to hostilities in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of a two-state solution for a lasting resolution. He expressed deep concerns about the suffering of innocent civilians in Gaza and the need for adequate humanitarian relief.

Antonio Guterres warmly welcomed General Asim upon his arrival, acknowledging the contributions of the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies to global peace and stability. The COAS reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the UN’s earnest efforts in promoting peace.
