An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday.

ATC Judge Abu Alhasnat Zulqarnain presided over the proceedings where he addressed the pleas of PTI founder and Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The prosecutor contested the bail plea of the PTI leaders, deeming it an ‘extraordinary’ relief.

The judge inquired whether the PTI founder and Shah Mahmood Qureshi were physically present at the locations where the incidents leading to their charges occurred.

The prosecutor clarified that, no, they were not present at the scenes of the incidents.

Subsequently, the ATC granted bail to PTI founder Imran Khan in three cases and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in two cases. Both PTI leaders are currently detained in Adiala Jail in connection with a cipher case.

In the preceding month, an Anti-terrorism court formally charged PTI leaders Yasmeen Rashid and Ijaz Chaudhry in the police van arson case that took place on May 09. Another PTI leader, Rubeena Jameel, was also indicted in the same case. ATC admin judge Abhar Gul Khan oversaw the proceedings related to the case, originally registered at Sarwar Road police station in Lahore.

All three accused individuals were presented in court for indictment, where they pleaded not guilty and expressed their intent to contest the charges against them.
