At least 55 dead as Israel steps up Gaza strikes: Hamas

Overnight bombings on the Gaza Strip killed at least 55 Palestinians, according to the Hamas authority, as Israel announced a surge in operations.

“More than 55 martyrs,” the government press office declared after the latest night of attack in response to Hamas strikes on Israel on October 7.

It reported that more than 30 homes were destroyed shortly after an Israeli military spokesperson announced an increase in raids.

The Hamas government claims that over 4,300 people, primarily civilians, have lost their lives in Israeli raids since the conflict began. This war was triggered by severe attacks on Israel, resulting in 1,400 casualties, mostly civilians.

Israel has amassed tens of thousands of troops around Gaza, indicating a widely expected ground invasion. They argue that their daily raids have already eliminated many key Hamas leaders and military commanders.

An Israeli military spokesperson stated, “Starting today, we are intensifying our airstrikes while minimizing the risk. We will escalate our attacks, so I urge residents of Gaza City to move south for their safety.”

Israel has repeatedly advised the 1.1 million people in the northern part of Gaza to relocate to the south in anticipation of a ground operation.

The Hamas government has expressed frustration over the inadequate arrival of aid, despite 20 trucks reaching the Palestinian territory on Saturday. They point out that 1.4 million people in the enclave have been displaced. The government is urging the international community to pressure Israel to send in thousands of trucks with humanitarian assistance.
