Canada introduces a new fast-track immigration program: here's how
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterLinkedinWhatsapp

Canada’s immigration authorities have stated that work permits will be processed more quickly, which will be great news for professionals.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in Canada has announced the expansion of ‘automation technology’ to more efficiently handle work permit extensions and post-graduation work permits (PGWPs).

According to an IRCC press release, new automated technologies will be utilized to aid in processing work permit extensions and PGWP applications based on their complexity, allowing for faster judgments for select applicants.

This development comes from Canada’s current significant delays in processing Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) applications and work permit renewals.

According to the IRCC, the tools are solely used to sort, assign, and assess applications, and “only an IRCC officer can refuse an application.”

“The automated tools do not refuse or recommend refusing applications,” it said.

According to the IRCC, the automated tools would assist in sorting and assigning applications to IRCC officers as well as assessing applications for eligibility; nevertheless, the latter function would require an IRCC officer to make the ultimate decision.

It is worth noting that applications that are not automatically granted may still be manually approved after being reviewed by an officer, meaning that the officers will have the last say on any matter.

According to data, India has emerged as the leading supplier of new permanent residents for Canada, as it provides graduates with an appealing socioeconomic life.

The technologies that will automate the process will only handle the most clerical and repetitive chores associated with sorting applications, allowing officers to focus their attention on evaluating applications and making final choices.

Canada’s opting for the tools comes months after former Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, spoke to the widespread use of artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and automated tools within the immigration department.
