India has 116 ratings in the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) rankings, having eliminated Pakistan by defeating Australia by five wickets on Friday in Mohali.
They are, however, closely followed by Pakistan, which is ranked second with 115 ratings.
The Blues won convincingly courtesy of a dominant performance by their batters, who included half-centuries from four different players: Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav.
India will play two additional One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia before the much-anticipated ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 begins.
If Australia defeats India in the remaining two matches, Pakistan will reclaim the top spot in the rankings.
If the Aussies do their job, the Green Shirts will reclaim their number one ODI ranking and will approach the World Cup on a high note.
It should be mentioned that Pakistan just surpassed Afghanistan as the top ODI team after winning a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka in August.
However, due to their poor performance in the Asia Cup 2023, they were downgraded to third place.
However, after South Africa won the five-match ODI series against Australia at home, Pakistan regained the top spot in the ICC rankings.
