Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has begun planning for the auction of 5G technology.

According to sources, the IT ministry has begun planning to introduce 5G services and has provided directions to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other ministries.

According to reports, the government expects to raise millions of dollars from the 5G auction, which is anticipated in August 2024.

According to sources, mobile operators currently use roughly 367 MHz of spectrum, and the forthcoming auction will boost this volume to over 600 MHz.

Previously, it was revealed that launching the much-anticipated 5G spectrum in Pakistan within 10 months is nearly impossible because local mobile operators are apparently unwilling to purchase 5G licenses due to economic insecurity.

Dr. Umar Saif, the caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, has stated that 5G services will be available in Pakistan within 10 months.

The outcome resulted from a crucial meeting last week between Saif and the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Maj Gen (R) Hafeezur Rehman. The conversations delved into complex telecommunications issues, the upcoming 5G auction, and spectrum distribution.

However, according to insiders in the telecom industry, local mobile carriers are reportedly unwilling to purchase 5G licenses due to the continual depreciation of the rupee against the dollar and a lack of technology in the nation to support the 5G spectrum.
