The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has extended an invitation to Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), to attend the Asia Cup’s opening match, which will take place on August 30 in Multan and feature Pakistan taking on Nepal.
PCB has also extended invites to the boards of other Asian nations for the aforementioned game.
It appears unlikely that Jay Shah would watch the first game, though. He met with Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB management committee, outside the ICC conference in Durban. Shah first accepted when Ashraf requested him to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, but then turned him down on the suggestion of another person.
The board claimed that they were aware that no Indians would attend any Asia Cup matches, but Pakistan has never combined sports and politics. Pakistan has sent an invitation to India on the same goodwill basis as other boards. It is now up to them whether or not they arrive.
When asked if Zaka Ashraf will attend the World Cup in India if invited, the board sources replied that the choice would be taken after consulting with the government at the appropriate time.
