PCB Comes Up with a Reason for not including Ex PM Imran Khan in Independence Day video

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) promptly corrected its oversight by featuring World Cup 1992 winning captain and former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Independence Day video.

The updated video is uploaded on the PCB’s official Facebook and X handle after the social media users bashed the cricket board and urged it to keep cricket away from politics.

The PCB has launched a promotional campaign leading up to the CWC 2023. One of the videos was uploaded on 14th August 2023. Due to its length, the video was abridged and some important clips were missing. This has been rectified in the complete version of the video ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/Rz2OBDyI9i

The development came after Pakistani cricket fans slammed the PCB for omitting former captain and Prime Minister Imran Khan from a social media video celebrating the national team’s successes since the country’s birth in 1947.

However, another omission has been noticed – the absence of Wasim Akram, who was named the man of the match in the 1992 World Cup final. While it’s understood that it’s impractical to encompass every cricketer who has donned Pakistan’s jersey at the international stage, it’s worth noting that Wasim Akram had been vocal about the cricket board’s oversight in a prior video that commemorated Pakistan cricket’s legacy.

Akram, who holds the distinction of claiming the highest number of Test wickets (414) and securing the most five-wicket hauls per innings (25) for Pakistan, has been an influential figure.

Previously the former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram has also taken to social media to criticize a minus Imran Khan video shared by the cricket board.

After long flights and hours of transit before reaching Sri Lanka, I got the shock of my life when I watched PCB’s short clip on the history of Pakistan cricket minus the great Imran Khan… political differences apart but Imran Khan is an icon of world cricket and developed…

Moreover, the global media condemned PCB for excluding Imran Khan from the Independence Day video.
