The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) returned from a two-day fruitful visit to Iran, where he met with Iran’s military leadership, including the Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri.
General Syed Asim Munir, COAS, met with H. Amir Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, and reviewed bilateral relations, long-standing commonalities/links, and optimistic possibilities for future relations.
Terrorism was identified as a common threat to the region and both countries by military officers on both sides.
They committed to eliminate the threat of terrorism in border areas by intelligence sharing and aggressive operations against terrorist networks, as well as to seek options for expanding security cooperation.
COAS also met with Iranian President H.E. Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister H.E. Hossein Amir Abdollahain.
The importance of Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations for regional peace and stability was stressed during negotiations.
On his arrival, COAS was greeted by the Guard of Honour by a well-dressed detachment of Iranian Armed Forces at the Military Headquarters.
On Sunday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met with Pakistan Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant-General Asim Munir in Tehran.
Extending on Iran’s border strategy with Pakistan, the Iranian president stated that the establishment of border markets and energy cooperation can aid in the realization of creating safe and economic borders.
He also mentioned enemies’ efforts to disrupt regional countries’ connections, emphasising the importance of enhancing bilateral and regional cooperation by seizing chances.
The Pakistani chief of army staff, for his part, mentioned the lengthy border shared by Iran and Pakistan, stressing that increased economic and trade exchanges can improve security along the frontiers.
The two countries have reached good agreements to improve border security, according to the official, who expressed his country’s determination to speed these measures in order to achieve long-term security.
