Apple has stated that My Photo Stream will be closed down next month, which will result in the irreversible deletion of all photos from your iPhone.
The IT behemoth said on its internet support page, “My Photo Stream is shutting down on July 26, 2023.” But, happily, there is a simple way to save your data before it is lost.
“As part of this transition, new photo uploads from your devices to My Photo Stream will cease one month earlier, on June 26, 2023.” Any photographs uploaded to the service prior to that date will be kept in iCloud for 30 days from the date of upload and will be accessible from any of your devices that have My Photo Stream activated. “By July 26, 2023, there will be no photos left in My Photo Stream, and the service will be discontinued,” according to the message.
Because the photographs in My Photo Stream are already stored on at least one of your devices, you won’t lose any photos as part of this procedure as long as you have the device containing your originals. If a photo you desire isn’t currently in your library on a certain iPhone, iPad, or Mac, save it to that device’s library.
Save the photographs that are currently in My Photo Stream
- If your photos currently in My Photo Stream aren’t already in your library, you can save them to your device.
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Open Photos and tap Albums.
- Tap My Photo Stream > Select.
- Tap the photos that you want to save, then tap the Share button > Save Image.
On your MacBook
Launch the Photos app, then go to the My Photo Stream album.
Choose any photographs you’d like to save that aren’t already in your photo library.
Drag them to your Library from the My Photo Stream album.
Apple is encouraging consumers to use iCloud images to save their images and videos. You don’t need to do anything else if you already have iCloud photographs activated on all of your devices – your photographs are already synced to iCloud.
To verify, go to Settings > your name > iCloud on your iPhone or iPad. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click your name, followed by iCloud. On each of your devices, ensure that it says “On” next to Photos.
