Marriott International, a well-known hotel operator, has announced plans to hire over 1,500 refugees across its European region, in addition to its commitment to hire over 1,500 refugees in the United States by 2025.
The goal to hire 3000 refugees is projected to be completed by 2026. Marriott President and CEO Anthony Capuano announced the company’s hiring commitment this week at the Tent Partnership for Refugees European Business Summit.
“At Marriott International, we believe in being a force for good and making a positive and sustainable impact in the communities where we do business,” Capuano explained.
“Since the beginning of the war, Europe has assisted Ukrainian refugees.” Our commitment to job creation has already resulted in the hiring of over 970 refugees across several of our properties in the European region. Marriott’s goal of hiring an additional 1,500 refugees in Europe “builds on the work we’re doing in the United States to promote opportunities for refugees and highlights our steadfast commitment to putting people first and providing economic opportunity for refugees and underrepresented populations,” he added.
Marriott stated in a news statement that for over 96 years, it has built a culture of embracing everyone who comes through its doors—guests and workers from all over the world.
According to the organization, it has a long history of providing skills development and training for jobs in the hotel industry, enabling refugees to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
“Some Marriott hotels offer recently resettled refugee employees resources and tailored support, such as on-site translators, prayer rooms, and help to navigate public transportation.” “As part of its hiring commitment, Marriott launched a careers website to highlight opportunities for refugees looking to apply for jobs in the United States,” the statement said.
The corporation also included cousins Ehsanullah Safi and Shah Faisal Safi, as well as their families, and stated that the Safis fled Afghanistan in August 2021 and are now linked with Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ.
Marriott also told the tale of Lidia Tomshivska, a Ukrainian who emigrated to Germany and began working at the Leipzig Marriott Hotel.
