Pakistan has assured its opposition to adding new permanent members to the UN Security Council (UNSC) saying that India in no ways qualifies for a seat on the 15-member council. India, Brazil, Germany and Japan have been campaigning for a permanent UNSC membership says Munir Akram at General Assembly – GA.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Munir Akram said to the UN General Assembly that, ‘We have clear and ample evidence of this state-sponsored terrorism.’ indicating towards the 20 wars waged by India in multiplying terrorism and instability across the region and especially in Pakistan.

One country, most insistent on #SC membership, has proclivity for use & threat of use of force;fomented terrorism across our region; violated #UNSC resolutions; targets innocent lives on #LoC.This has no qualification for #SC, permanent or even non-permanent membership:Amb Akram pic.twitter.com/w0eVxcFB5F

Negotiations to reform the council began in February 2009, with discussions on veto, regional representation and many more. ‘This country has no qualification for a UNSC membership, permanent or even non-permanent,’ the Pakistani spokesperson added. Despite a general agreement on enlarging the council, the individual details have yet divided the council.

The UNSC comprises of 10 non-permanent members and five permanent ones namely Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States. ‘The UfC is prepared to explore with the African Group how their regional approach could be adapted to enable all regions to be able to select their own candidates for membership in an expanded Security Council. At the same time, the balance between the council and the GA must be restored to better the entire multilateral system,’ said Akram.

"The reform of the #SC must be part of broader revival of the multilateral system as it was conceived under the Charter. The Council must be made more representative, responsive, democratic and transparent": Amb Munir Akram @PakistanPR_UN at the #GA Plenary Meeting on #SCReforms pic.twitter.com/YgLGQwuhZO

A day earlier, Pakistan pleaded to the world to take notice of India sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan and prevent it from any future steps of such. The statement was rejected by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs saying that Pakistan’s step was ‘fabricated’ and ‘lacking credibility.’ Members of the UN Security Council were briefed about the matter at hand and also requested to play its part in breaking the Indian terrorism motive.
