The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) commenced a night-time landing operation at Gwadar International Airport on Sunday.

The CAA has issued guidelines to airlines and aviation companies stating that overnight parking at the Gwadar airport will not be permitted.

“Only military aircraft and those belonging to the Balochistan government will be allowed to park at night at Gwadar International Airport,” it claimed.

The country’s main airport, New Gwadar International Airport, is located in Gurandani, 26 kilometers east of Gwadar. It is Balochistan’s first airport to allow night landings.

The airport accommodates both domestic and international flights to the port city.

The project was funded by a grant from the Chinese government as part of the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with an estimated cost of $230 million.

The airport’s construction, according to the CPEC website, created 3,000 jobs. The airport’s groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 29, 2019, by then-prime minister Imran Khan.

The Aviation Division was tasked with carrying out the project.

Meanwhile, construction on the structure began on October 31, 2019. According to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor webpage, the project is expected to be completed in March 2023.

“Construction of New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA), along with allied facilities for a new airport that will be capable of handling a combination of ATR 72, Airbus, (A-300), Boeing (B-737), and Boeing (B-747) for domestic as well as international routes,” the website says of the much-anticipated facility.
