The federal government has submitted its response to the Supreme Court (SC) concerning discussions with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to reach a consensus on the country’s elections.

The response, presented by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar through the attorney general of Pakistan, stated that the negotiations with PTI for elections had produced positive outcomes. It also mentioned that the coalition partners had displayed flexibility during the talks.

During the negotiations, the topic of dissolving assemblies before their designated time was also deliberated, but no agreement was reached. The coalition government believes that political matters should be resolved through negotiations, as mentioned in the reply submitted by Ishaq Dar to the SC.

The federal government informed the SC that, in the best interest of the country, the coalition government is willing to resume the dialogue.

PTI has submitted a report to the SC

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) submitted a comprehensive report on the negotiations with the ruling alliance to the Supreme Court (SC).

The report was filed with the SC Registrar’s Office and provided details about the three rounds of talks held with the coalition government.

In a previous tweet, Fawad stated that the party’s report would also request the apex court to implement its order regarding the Punjab Assembly elections, which was issued on April 4.

Government and PTI agree on simultaneous elections

The third round of talks between delegations from the ruling coalition and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) concluded with both sides agreeing to hold general elections on the same day nationwide.

After the meeting, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, representing the government, informed the media that a consensus had been reached to hold elections on the same day across the country under a caretaker setup.

The finance minister mentioned that both sides presented their proposals for the election date. He also stated that there is still disagreement on one item in the agenda and that another round of talks will take place soon.

Ishaq Dar further stated that the delegations would consult with their respective leaders and highlighted that flexibility was being shown by both sides during the negotiations.

In a separate conversation with journalists, Shah Mahmood Qureshi from the PTI side confirmed the development and expressed that they had demonstrated flexibility for the sake of national consensus.

The senior vice chairman of PTI acknowledged that his side had agreed on some points during the negotiations with the government team. He added that they had reached an agreement to hold elections on the same day nationwide under a caretaker setup.
