Asia Cup cancellation likely to strain Pakistan's relations with Asian countries

Pakistan is scheduled to host the Asia Cup, but India has declined to travel to Pakistan for the event due to political concerns between the two countries.

To address the issue, Pakistan proposed a hybrid approach during an Asian Cricket Council conference, in which all teams except India would play in a separate country. India, on the other hand, has rejected this plan and is now pressing for the entire event to be held in a neutral venue.

According to insiders, if PCB maintains its stance on the hybrid model, Asia Cup may not be able to take place this year, and PCB is prepared for this.

“If the Asia Cup is canceled after the ACC chairman summons an Executive Board meeting,” an ACC source said, “the ramifications will not only be Pakistan’s World Cup participation but also the PCB’s FTP calendar and bilateral relations with Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), according to sources, has rejected the idea of hosting the Asia Cup fully in a separate country. According to reports, the cricket boards of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh made an informal attempt to urge Pakistan to hold the event at a neutral venue, but their efforts were futile.

According to sources, during an informal discussion among ACC members about hosting the tournament at a neutral venue, it was disclosed that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) supported the BCCI’s idea.
