Mickey Arthur, the former head coach of Pakistan’s cricket team, has returned to Pakistan and is expected to be named as the new Director of the Men in Green’s team. He will be with the team until April 20, after which he will go to England, where he currently serves as the Head of Cricket at Derbyshire.

Arthur’s return as Director is anticipated to bring a lot of experience, expertise, and renewed hope for the team’s success in future competitions. He had previously served as Pakistan’s head coach from 2016 to 2019, during which time the team achieved some significant accomplishments, including winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.

After the team’s fifth-place finish at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to renew Arthur’s contract, along with those of his support staff. However, the PCB has been in talks with Arthur about the possibility of him returning as the head coach. If appointed, Arthur would guide the team through the ACC Asia Cup, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

However, because of Arthur’s long-term contract with Derbyshire, the PCB has also discussed the possibility of him serving as a consultant to the team on a time-sharing basis. Arthur has promised to join the team in India for the 50-over ICC World Cup later this year, but he will continue working for Derbyshire County Cricket Club as a full-time coach and won’t be available during the English domestic season.
