PCB management committee chairman Najam Sethi has disclosed that former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur will visit the country next week before formally being appointed as a consultant to the national team.
Sethi mentioned in an interview that Arthur will arrive in Lahore on April 18, coinciding with Pakistan’s ongoing white-ball series against New Zealand.
He also stated that Arthur will be overseeing one or two matches of the series and will be focusing on preparing and training the team, briefing them on his plans, and discussing strategies with Babar Azam and other players.
Sethi shared his preference for foreign coaches over former national players and local coaches, citing the former’s lack of involvement in politics and greater professionalism.
He believed that friendships should not play a significant role in decision-making in professional cricket and that embracing professional ethics is vital.
The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to play five T20 Internationals and as many ODIs against New Zealand from April 14 to May 7 in Lahore. PCB recently announced a fresh coaching panel for the series, which included Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick as head and batting coaches, respectively.
