Selector tells Mohammad Amir to be prepared for international comeback

Mohammad Amir’s manager has been contacted by a key member of the Pakistani selection committee, who has requested him to let the left-arm pacer know that he needs to get ready for an international comeback.

Amir has reportedly been told by the selection to concentrate on his cricket and avoid making unnecessary comments in the media that could spark a debate.

According to the report, he will shortly be asked to take his retirement back, so he needs to keep working out and staying in shape until then.

In 2020, Amir ended his international career in protest at the treatment he had received from the Misbah ul Haq-led administration at the time. However, following Najam Sethi’s return to the leadership of the PCB, the management committee stated in a media interview that if Amir decides to come out of retirement, he will be given the same consideration for selection as other players.

If Muhammad Amir postpones his departure, he can still represent Pakistan in international cricket. I’ve always been strongly opposed to match-fixing. No player convicted of a crime should be spared, in my opinion, but at the same time, a player should be permitted to play international cricket once they have served their sentence, according to Sethi.

In an interview with Cricket Pakistan earlier this year, Pakistan’s top selector, Haroon Rasheed, reaffirmed Sethi’s position on the choice of Amir.

“I feel players should take decisions after careful consideration. Your single statement can cause controversy. In my opinion, players should focus on their cricket,” Haroon said.

“In Amir’s case, I am not sure about his status. I have heard he is thinking of taking his retirement back. It is good that he is playing. If he continues to perform, he will be in contention for selection like other players,” he added.

Amir continues to play in leagues all over the globe despite having retired from international competition; most recently, he represented Karachi Kings in PSL 8.
