At least 20 passengers were killed and more than two dozen suffered injuries when a passenger coach crashed in Asir province of Saudi Arabia.

According to reports in Saudi media, a fiery Accident happened on March 27 as the pilgrims were traveling between the cities of Abha and Muhayil Asir.

Rescue workers, members of the Red Crescent, and other local officials rushed to the scene of the collision, and nearby roads were shut down for traffic. According to initial investigations, the passenger coach had a brake failure as it was traveling down a bridge, causing it to crash into a barrier at the end of the bridge and catch fire.

The deceased passengers were of various nationalities while officials are yet to share the identities of all individuals.

Videos floating online show emergency personnel arriving at the scene of the collision, where the burned-out bus had turned turtle.

The terrible tragedy took place in Saudi Arabia’s busy Ramadan first week when a large influx of pilgrims is arriving from all over the world.

Shifting huge numbers of pilgrims around Saudi Arabia’s holy sites is a risky task, especially during the rush season when roads can be chaotic with coaches producing ceaseless traffic queues.
