According to reports, the M1, M2, M3, and M4 will all have Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has announced that it will install Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) on motorways M1, M2, M3, and M4. These systems are said to change how challans are issued and enforced on Pakistan’s national highways and motorways.

The ITS will be a key component of the NHMP’s traffic modernization strategy because it will help commuters avoid delays and spot speeding cars.

Once the NHMP established a partnership between Motorway Police and the Border Works Organization, information regarding the ITS was released. With the National Highway Authority, a deal to put ITS on highways was reached.

The installation of these systems, in accordance with NHMP, will end commuter delays on highways. This is due to the fact that speeding commuters won’t be pulled over and charged; instead, a challan will be immediately lodged against the violators.

Such automated systems are already in use on the Lahore-Sialkot highway, where speeding violators pay their challans when they arrive at the toll booth near the end of the highway.

When someone exceeds the speed limit, a rudimentary ITS system merely sends the records, registers a challan in their name, and mails the challan to them. The ITS systems installed in Pakistan, however, won’t be able to accomplish this and would only tax drivers while they are really driving.

This is because it might be challenging to identify the intended recipient of the challan in Pakistan since many automobiles are shared by multiple family members. When these ITS systems are in place, users will be required to pay their challan when they arrive at the toll booth that is located at the end of the motorways.
