Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed to convert all the federal government buildings in Islamabad to solar power within seven weeks.

The prime minister assigned the project’s concerned personnel a definite seven-week deadline to finish it.

In a meeting, the prime minister declared that he would not put off taking any action to lessen the nation’s reliance on imported gasoline.

Shehbaz Sharif also gave the order to start the solarization process for buildings owned by the federal government in other parts of the country.

He claimed that in order to ease the strain on the public’s wallets, the government is taking action to generate power at a low cost that is also environmentally benign.

The expensive import bill for petroleum, which is currently in the range of $27 billion, will be reduced, the prime minister had earlier declared.

The prime minister stated at a conference on solarization in December that the conversion of solar power should go quickly because April 2023 had been designated as the deadline for bringing this plan into action.

According to the proposal, he claimed, all federal government ministries, agencies, authorities, and their provincial offshoots would switch over immediately to solar power.

“It would be a model for the provincial governments as the federal government would not make additional expenditures over the solarization process,” he said.
