Arshad Nadeem, a talented javelin thrower from Pakistan who is presently undergoing rehabilitation, declared on Friday that if he is able to compete in the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19 to 27, that will be his primary focus.

Nadeem won a gold medal for Pakistan in the Islamic Solidarity Games and the Commonwealth Games last year. Nadeem stated, “The World Championship is my main aim and I will try to achieve top condition before that tournament.” “And if I recover earlier then I may also play the Asian Championship,” he was quick to add.

Nadeem has been through a rehabilitation program at the PSB Coaching Center in Lahore after having elbow surgery in London a few months ago. The recovery period should have lasted seven to eight weeks, but Arshad warned that because of the chilly weather, it might last longer.

He answered, “You have to agree to such things. “At the moment, I combine routine exercise from physiotherapy with light training. Although I don’t feel any such pain in my elbow, the precise situation won’t be understood until I start working out seriously.

“After a couple of months training I will know exactly where my fitness stands,” said Nadeem, who sustained an elbow injury during an international event in Iran a couple of years ago.
