Wasim Akram, a former captain of Pakistan and renowned bowler, met with Prince Saud bin Mishal Al-Saud, the head of the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation (SACF), to discuss developing cricket in the kingdom and introducing their cricket league.

In a group game of the 2014 FIFA Globe Cup, Saudi Arabia, a country known for its love of football, shocked the world by defeating Argentina and its star player Lionel Messi. The team, although failing to go past the Round of 32, showed that the kingdom has a bright future in the most popular sport.

The football-obsessed Kingdom, however, has turned its focus to cricket after Saudi Prince Saud Mishal met with famous bowler Akram to discuss the possibility of launching a new cricket league and promoting the sport.

Following their meeting, the Saudi Prince also honored the legendary pacer with a custom jersey. The renowned bowler thanked the Saudi prince for the gift and showed his excitement for the future Saudi league on Facebook by posting a photo of himself and Prince Saud Mishal holding the jersey.

“What a trip to Riyadh had a great meeting with HH Saudmishal and talked about cricket in Saudi Arabia and so looking forward to starting a Saudi league Insha Allah very soon and thanks for this lovely gift, your highness. Hopefully, see you soon,” wrote Akram.

It is important to note that in the forthcoming eighth season of the premier league, which will begin on February 13 in Multan, Akram, the President of the most popular Karachi Kings franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), will continue to coach the past champions.
