The fee for a machine-readable passport from Pakistan has not increased, according to the interior ministry.
A representative for the ministry said in a statement released on Saturday that the rumors spreading on social media about an increase in the pricing for machine-readable passports were false and baseless.
The official stated, “The federal government has approved the issuance of e-passports, however, there has not been a hike in fee for the machine-readable passport.”
The official emphasized that the e-passport facility, which is the passport for which the process has been put online, has not yet begun.
The Directorate General Immigration & Passports recently set a fee for the issuance of e-passports only while maintaining the fee for all other types of passports; however, shortly after the announcement, social media was inundated with reports that the fee for other types of passports had also increased.
Pakistani citizens receive green passports, whereas only government employees receive the official, blue passport that grants them visa-free travel to numerous nations, including Denmark and Norway.
Following the completion of the necessary procedures, passports are issued to applicants by the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports, which is a division of the Ministry of Interior.
