Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his gratitude to the heads of State and governments, the European Union, development partners, and the UN for making the Resilient Pakistan Conference a resounding success.
He said in his tweets from Tuesday that the UN Secretary-General has always shown great leadership. The people of Pakistan will always be appreciative of him.
“I was deeply moved by the compassion on display at Geneva Conference. Together we will rebuild lives and hopes,” he added.
During the International Conference on Climate Resilience on Monday, Pakistan obtained over $10 billion in promises from international financial organizations, donor agencies, and development partners for the rehabilitation, recovery, and reconstruction of flood-affected areas.
IDB, US, France pledge aid to Pakistan at Geneva
The major pledges made at the conference, co-chaired by Pakistan and the UN in Geneva included $4.2 billion from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), $2 billion from the World Bank, $1.5 billion from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), $1 billion from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and $1 billion from Saudi Arabia.
The Pakistani delegation was headed by PM Shehbaz, who provided a detailed overview of Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework (4RF), which outlined a multi-sectoral approach to rehabilitation and reconstruction in a way that was both inclusive and climate-resilient.
The group headed by the prime minister included the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Finance, Minister for Planning, Minister for Climate Change, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, and Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal.
