Ex-Indian skipper backs Babar Azam for captaincy

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, responded on Sunday to the criticism leveled at his captaincy ahead of the three-match ODI series with New Zealand.

The captain of the Pakistani squad mentioned that he was more concerned with winning games for his nation than with listening to criticism.

“My job is to play cricket and enjoy it. I don’t need to satisfy or answer anyone. I know what my game and responsibility are while batting or captaincy. I don’t need to make anyone happy, my job is to win matches for Pakistan,” Babar said while addressing a press conference in Karachi.

The captain also declined to comment on Pakistan’s starting lineup for the January 9 first ODI encounter against New Zealand.

“I did not examine the pitch. We’ll evaluate it and then choose our starting lineup. In order to maintain our momentum in white-ball cricket, we would strive to field our best XI, Babar remarked.

The captain of Pakistan also said that the management of the squad and the selectors are in agreement.

“It’s critical for the success of the squad that the captain, coach, and top selector are on the same page. We told the head selector about the player selection what we thought,” he stated.

During the next series against New Zealand, Pakistan will have the opportunity to surpass New Zealand as the best ODI side in the world.

Pakistan would go up to the top of the rankings with 114 rating points if they defeat New Zealand 3-0 during the three-match series. With 107 rating points, The Men in Green are presently in the fifth position.

New Zealand is now in first place with 116 rating points. It will be Pakistan’s fourth straight series victory if they defeat New Zealand in the one-day internationals. Pakistan has won its last three ODI series against the Netherlands, West Indies, and Australia.
