The International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan will take place in Geneva tomorrow, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will serve as co-hosts.

According to the foreign office, as the nation moves from the rescue-and-relief phase to the enormous task of recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, the Conference will serve as a platform to mobilize international support for the people and Government of Pakistan to build back better in a resilient manner after the recent devastating floods.

At the Conference, Pakistan will discuss its commitment to the nation’s reconstruction and rehabilitation and ask for international assistance and long-term partnerships to carry it out. It outlines a prioritized and sequential Plan, defined at the Federal and Provincial levels, and includes the financial mechanism and institutional arrangements for its execution in an open, transparent and collaborative manner.

This will be followed by the official declaration of partner assistance and the launch of the plan “contribution to Pakistan’s reconstruction and rehabilitation.” A joint press stakeout will be held by the UN Secretary-General and the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister will present Pakistan’s vision at the conference for the resilient reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure and rehabilitation of the affected population with the help of development partners, as well as the country’s transition to a more dynamic and sustainable economic development model. Pakistan’s federal ministers will outline the country’s long-term strategy for enhancing climate adaptation and resilience. The delegates of the four provinces will express their viewpoints.

The Conference will be attended by heads of state and government, ministers, and high-level representatives from a number of nations, international financial institutions, foundations, and funds, as well as the corporate sector, civil society, and INGOs.

The Conference will support Pakistan in building a long-term relationship with its friends and development partners based on the support for Pakistan’s reconstruction and rehabilitation plan, and it will show the world’s solidarity with the Pakistani people as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives and means of subsistence.
