The persecution of minorities in India and the human rights abuses in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have been called attention to by President Dr. Arif Alvi.

The president made this statement to a group of distinguished Pakistani ex-pats living in the UK and the US, according to a statement released by the President’s Secretariat Press Wing.

President Alvi referred to the Pakistani diaspora as a valuable resource that was helping their home countries advance and flourish via their labor, wisdom, and intellect.

He urged Pakistanis living abroad to keep in touch with their own communities and to use their knowledge, skills, experiences, and investments to improve their social, economic, and financial outlook.

Arif Alvi urged the delegation’s participants to use their knowledge, insight, and experience to help Pakistan create the favorable conditions necessary to preserve its valuable human capital, which includes highly educated individuals who are essential to the country’s socioeconomic progress.

He also expressed his concern about media estimates that over 700,000 educated and skilled workers have left the country in recent months.

The president claimed that despite Pakistan’s challenging economic and financial conditions, they could be overcome.

He claimed that Pakistan was moving in the correct direction in terms of empowering women and persons with disabilities, supporting orphans, and shifting its emphasis from expensive and unaffordable curative treatment of diseases to preventive forms of treatment that would assist ensure health.

According to President Alvi, Pakistan’s hosting of 4 million Afghan refugees for almost 40 years, largely with its own resources, was a model of hospitality, morality, and concern for the suffering of humanity.

He claimed that the recent conflict in Ukraine had made instances of discrimination against refugees more apparent. He believed that whereas migrants from other regions of the world were evicted and let to drown in the sea, Ukrainian refugees were accepted by EU nations.

The president stated that the primary goal of the United Nations (UN) was to lessen conflicts around the world. It was regrettable, however, that conflicts were largely reduced in Europe while continuing unabated in other parts of the world, particularly in Muslim countries, as a result of vested interests and an ethically and morally deficient global order.

He claimed that in order to further the interests of the developed world, wars and conflicts were being fought in places like Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Afghanistan that the UN was powerless to stop. These conflicts were being fought primarily through the dissemination of false information, fake news, and disinformation.

The Problem of Kashmir’s Illegal Indian Occupation It was regrettable that Jammu and Kashmir were still one of the oldest unresolved agenda items awaiting the application of multiple UNSC resolutions.

The President stated that religious extremism was on the rise in India and the country’s majority Hindu population was being pitted against all religious or racial minorities, all while making reference to the rising tide of Islamophobia and the radical Hindutva doctrine.

He said that minorities were being discriminated against, harassed, victimized, and intimidated across India on the basis of their religion.

He claimed that minorities, particularly Muslims, were so terrified of being victimized by the Indian Security Forces that they were even afraid to phone their relatives abroad.
