Conway, Latham take NZ to 165-0 in reply to Pakistan’s 438

Following Agha Salman’s first test century and Pakistan’s 438 in the inaugural cricket test on Tuesday, New Zealand’s opening pair of left-handed batsman came back with a strong 165-0.

At the end of the second day’s play, Devon Conway and Tom Latham were still unbeaten at 82 and 78, respectively, despite Abrar Ahmed’s tough spin.

In its first test tour to Pakistan since 2002, New Zealand is behind by 273. Conway also broke John F. Reid’s previous national record by scoring 1,000 test runs in 19 innings.

Ish Sodhi, a Kiwi legspinner, said, “We still scored at 3.5 (runs) an over without sort of forcing any risks. “Hopefully tomorrow is the same for us.”

Conway could have been dismissed on 57, an hour into the last session, but Pakistan missed an opportunity by opting not to go for a caught-behind TV referral. Television replays suggested Conway had got a faint inside edge after Nauman Ali had spun the ball back into the batter from the rough.
