Rana Sanaulah distances govt from cases against Azam Swati

Azam Swati, a senator for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was accused of targeting two institutions rather than the government, according to Interior Minister Rana Sanauallah, who on Saturday rejected the notion that the cases against Swati were motivated by “political revenge.”

This was said by the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at a press conference in Lahore. The minister said that the cases against Swati were not related to the government.

According to Sanaullah, the senator attacked the army and the judiciary rather than the government.

“If we wanted to file cases against them [PTI leaders] or wanted to treat them how they treated us. We would have filed cases of heroin against them,” he said.

The interior minister continued by saying that legal action is being taken against them. “The Balochistan High Court just dismissed the charges against him. However, we have been fighting our cases for years, “added said.

Sanaullah continued by claiming that Shaukat Tarin, a former finance minister, “spoke about sabotaging” the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program in the allegedly leaked audio.

“They don’t have the power so they are bent upon destroying the country’s economy,” he said. “Why shouldn’t the cases against the members of the coalition government be closed since they are being closed after litigation?” he asked.

In reference to the defamation case filed by the UK paper over charges of corruption against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Sanaullah claimed that the Daily Mail had admitted its error and apologized. He asserted that former federal minister Shahzad Akbar ordered the newspaper to make the error.

The minister claimed that Imran Khan “filed fake charges against others when he himself was engaged in corruption,” adding that they should also apologize to the country for false cases.
