Google has not yet reinstated the downloading of purchased applications through mobile operators in Pakistan. However, paid applications can be bought through credit or debit card payment.

Despite the government giving the State Bank of Pakistan directions, the direct carrier billing (DCB) method for downloading Google-purchased programs via mobile phones for a month has not been reinstated.

According to the publication, the system will be back up in five to ten days since payments that are delayed will be processed through a certain bank, which takes time to process.

Customers have been “anxiously awaiting the restoration of the old payment system,” according to a government official, who stated that Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Syed Aminul Haque was supposed to contact SAPM on Finance Tariq Bajwa on Friday and ask him to speed up the process of restoring the DCB mechanism as soon as possible.

Customers who had received messages instructing them to provide credit or debit card information in order to download Google-purchased software contacted this writer and showed the messages they had received.

The representative from the government stated that they expect the former payment system to be reinstated in seven to ten days. The decision was put into effect for Pakistani clients, he continued, because Google had previously declared that the bought program may be downloaded using a credit/debit card starting on December 1, 2022.

The government must immediately carry out its instructions to restore the DCB payment, enabling cell operators to pay for the download of acquired apps using funds from their phones’ balances.
