With 97 wickets for Pakistan, Shadab and Afridi joined as the game’s top wicket-takers in the shortest form.

The expert bowler surpassed the previous record on Sunday during the T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh by taking two wickets. Shadab took 97 wickets in 82 games while Afridi needed 98 games to reach the total.

With 85 wickets each, Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal are third and fourth on the list. Haris Rauf, meanwhile, is in sixth place with 70 kills. In the match that Pakistan must win, Bangladesh has set a target of 128 runs for Pakistan.

  • With the ball, pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi excelled, claiming 4-22 in four overs.
  • Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh’s opener, led the team in scoring with 54 runs in 48 balls.
  • Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, won the toss and decided to bat first against Pakistan because the victor would advance to the T20 World Cup semifinals.

In the first Super 12 game at the Adelaide Oval, the Netherlands eliminated South Africa from the competition, securing India’s spot in the final four. India will take on Zimbabwe later today in Melbourne.

Both Pakistan and Bangladesh, level on four points, needed the Dutch victory to infuse power in their bid for a semis spot and now play a virtual quarter-final.
